Start of the 100 year celebration of the Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory

Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory was established in 1913. Ongoing year will be the 100 year celebrity of the observatory. Starting event of the jubilee year will take place in the monthly meeting of the Geophysical Society of Finland in Helsinki on 22 January 2013. The director of the observatory, Esa Turunen, gives review lecture about the history of the observatory.

Other jubilee year events will be published later.

Adj. Prof. Esa Turunen started as director of the observatory

Adj. Prof. Esa Turunen started as director of the observatory on 1 January 2013. Esa Turunen returns to SGO from EISCAT Scientific Association, where he worked as the director of the EISCAT 2009-2012.

Adj. Prof. Thomas Ulich will continue as deputy director of the observatory and the head of the observation unit on 1 January 2013. The depute head of the observation unit, Jyrki Manninen, will take care of the research development of the observatory.

SGO phone numbers to change

Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory will replace landline telephones with mobile phones. New numbers, starting +358 294, works already, but the old number will still be working. Landline phone numbers now starting with +358-(0)16-619 change to starting with +358-(0)294-480. The last three digits in the phone numbers will remain the same as before. Calls to the new numbers will be directed to a mobile phone. Current mobile phone numbers will not change.
