Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory

SGO iCCD camera 2000-2021

The quick-look data of SGO iCCD camera can be found via iCCD keograms page available via the submenu on the top of page. The iCCD camera of SGO are in operation from late August to late April, when the Sun is at least 10° below the horizon.

iCCD keograms and timelapse movies are available online in the SGO data archive and data files by request.

The iCCD camera was part of the MIRACLE network, running the MIRACLE sequences:

  • the green filter (557nm) every 20 seconds
  • the red filter (630nm) once per minute
  • the blue filter (428nm) once per minute
  • unfiltered "white image" every 15 minutes.
The exposure times of the images has varied few times according to gain of the photo intensifier tube used in the camera.

The iCCD camera replaced the FMI ASC film camera at SOD in 2000. The iCCD camera was in operation over 20 years and synoptic auroral observations at Sodankylä are done now by Sky-I camera.

The iCCD imager was calibrated in FMI calibration laboratotory in the context of the Nordic optical intercalibration session and imager calibration of the identical FMI iCCD imagers.
